Project Description:

Bell Street Park in East Palo Alto, California is the center for community recreation, and is being developed by the city in phases of a Master Plan. Passive recreational park areas were developed initially, and the new swimming pool was constructed and opened in 1996. Phase II of the Master Plan is the construction of a Poolhouse to serve the pool.

Carrasco & Associates' design for this Poolhouse includes public lobby with check-in area, locker rooms and restrooms, administrative offices and a concession area. The building has been shaped to complement the existing circular-plan pool deck, as well as reflect the "fun" atmosphere of Summer swimming for families and friends. Materials for the poolhouse include glazed concrete masonry walls, glass block accents and curved metal panel roof. Clearstory glass brings light into the interior spaces and creates a festive atmosphere.
