Project
Description:
San
Jose Family Supportive Housing
The
new shelter for Family Supportive Housing (FSH) will
provide short-term housing for up to 35 families in
small apartments, as well as a child care center, community
spaces, a commercial kitchen and dining room, and staff
offices. FSH is a non-profit that encourages families
to stay intact while addressing their needs for food,
shelter, education, and employment. It will be the only
homeless shelter in Santa Clara County that allows families
to stay together. The new 42,000 square foot building
will replace he current inadequate facility in a converted
warehouse.
The
inviting warm colored stucco exterior includes outdoor
courtyards and decks, shaded by plantings and trellises,
will provide comfortable areas for families to socialize.
The project aims for sustainable, energy-efficient construction
on a modest budget; LEED Silver certification is anticipated.
Kings
Crossings Apartments
King
Crossings Apartments is part of new 5-acre transit-oriented
community next to the proposed Berryessa BART station.
The 70,000 square foot complex, developed by Charities
Housing, will include 94 nits of permanent, affordable
rental housing for low income families. A variety of
community spaces include a multi-purpose room, fitness
center, laundry, and a community kitchen. A large central
courtyard provides activity areas for residents, including
children’s play areas, benches, tables and barbecue
areas, as well as trees in planters for shaded seating.
The
building façade above the ground floor is modulated
with warped planes, recessed decks, and deep tone accent
colors to give visual movement and varied shade and
shadow patterns. A glass lobby accents the corner of
the building leading to the rest of village development.
